District Goals

District Goal 1: Literary Analysis Writing
At least 80% of all students in grades K-8 will achieve one level higher on a literary analysis task
(LAT) using the appropriate grade level NJSLA Prose Constructed Response Rubric or
equivalent. At least 30% of students in grades K-8 will achieve two or more levels higher on a
literary analysis task (LAT) using the appropriate grade level NJSLA Prose Constructed Response
Rubric or equivalent.District Goal 2: Reading in Content Areas and Related Arts
The Shrewsbury Borough School District will expand English Language Arts instruction with a
focus on increasing opportunities for reading different text types, text analysis, and word study to
enhance achievement in K-8 English Language Arts..District Goal 3: Responsive Classroom
The Shrewsbury Borough School District will continue a multi-year implementation of the
Responsive Classroom approach to further support the social, emotional, and academic needs of
all our students and to mitigate learning loss and accelerate learning progress. Year Two’s
emphasis will be on improving student and teacher language.District Goal 4: Response to Intervention (RTI)
The Shrewsbury Borough School District will continue to develop our RTI services and parent
communication to improve student achievement through a continuum of targeted and tiered
intervention services to support students. Throughout the school year, the RTI Team will continue
to review data to monitor measurable student improvement in the identified targeted areas as a
means to guide high quality implementation of instruction at varying levels of intensity. The RTI
Team will continue to utilize a multidisciplinary approach to assess progress of individual students
and the overall effectiveness of the targeted and tiered support services. Teachers and staff will
continue to be trained in identifying, implementing and measuring the effectiveness of targeted
and tiered interventions to promote success for all students.
Board of Education Goals

Goal 1 Continue to communicate the progress of the implementation of the referendum project
with all stakeholder groups.Goal 2 Support administration and staff in their endeavor in the alignment of curriculum
implementation of the new ELA and Math standards.Goal 3 Create and increase awareness and support of SEPAC (Special Education Parent Advisory
Council). Investigate and develop various methods of improving and streamlining
communications for the school community.

- Any correspondence to the Board should be addressed to the full Board. The Business Administrator/Board Secretary (casel@sbs-nj.org) must be copied on all correspondence sent to the Board.
- Only correspondence that is addressed to the Members of the Board of Education (which includes the Superintendent) and copied to the Business Administrator/Board Secretary will appear on the agenda under the heading of Communications.
Becoming a Board Member

To become a member of a local Board of Education in New Jersey, you must meet the following legal requirements:
- Be able to read and write;
- Hold citizenship and one year's residency in the school district;
- Have no interest in any contract with, or claim against the Board;
- Not hold office as mayor or member of the municipal governing body; and
- Be registered to vote in the district and not be disqualified as a voter under N.J.S.A. 19:4-1
Any community member that qualifies with the above legal requirements and would like to become a member of the Shrewsbury Board of Education, should obtain a Candidacy Kit.
Petitions for school board candidates for the November election are available for pick up at the County Clerk’s Election office located at 300 Halls Mill Road, Freehold, NJ 07728, by mail at the same address, by calling 732-431-7790, or on the New Jersey School Boards Association website.
